With advancements in quality dust control for high performance floor resurfacing equipment, dry polishing concrete has significant advantages over old school wet polishing procedures. It allows preparatory grinding and polishing to take place in a tiered system enabling higher efficiency for larger projects. In our book, efficiency affords project cost savings.
Wet polishing requires the added disadvantage of continual water source and the slurry that must be collected and than disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. To collect and dispose of, adds cost and project time. When concrete polishing is undertaken in existing facilities and homes, in areas that are not to treated it is advised dust sensitive electrical items be removed or at least protected from the dust that may transfer beyond the area being mechanical diamond polished.
The dry polishing concrete process is not completely dustless simply due to the many limitations of neat processing of concrete stairs, benches or seats, around fixtures and area perimeters in most cases with hand held tooling. However with the majority of floor machine concrete polishing works, 95 -98% of generated dust particles within the foot print diameter of the floor equipment will be collected via purpose built high filtration dust collection / extraction units.
The dry polishing process is not only advantageous for many reason, it allows works to take placed with minimal down time and each completed stage is immediately accessible for follow on finishing trades or put in to service on completion of floor re-furbishing upgrade. Our mechanical dry polishing concrete procedures are determined by the structural concretes general surface suitability for the desired finish criteria.
In achieving the optimum outcome, Ultimate Floors will remove 1mm to 4mm of the concrete’s surface for majority of applications with suitable metal bonded diamond grinding and honing configurations. Extensive floor refurbishing can have up to 10mm of concrete wear surface removed during the preparatory grinding stages.
Regardless of the initial floor grinding works, the concrete may treated with one of three types of liquid densifiers followed with a range of resin bonded diamond stages resulting in sheen levels from low gloss satin to super gloss. The results achievable is simply amazing, contact us today to learn how the investment benefits our concrete floor polishing processes can be a viable solution.
